The Healing Power of Memoir Writing

Memoirs can serve as powerful tools for healing, transformation, and empowerment for women, offering spaces for validation, reflection, inspiration, and connection. I'll be sharing my own experience, as well as theoretical aspects of women's writing as a cultural production practice.

I am honored to be part of the "Youth and Gender" project series, organized by Vietnam Women's Publishing House and Nam Thi House. The event is open to students, scholars, writers, young professionals, and anyone passionate about culture, gender issues, literature, and creative writing.

Thanks to the Vietnamese audience for engaging in discussions on women's writing. I focused on healing intergenerational trauma and the importance of women speaking their truth. It was an honor to share insights into the writing of my memoir and explore different ways of knowing through the body, emotions, intuition, memories, and relationships.

This event was part of a gender talk series organized by Professor Nguyễn Thị Minh, Ho Chi Minh City University of Education. I'm grateful she invited me to speak and is translating my book! Later this year, the Women's Publishing House will publish it in Vietnamese, allowing more women and girls to access it.

My fellow speaker was Professor Hồ Khánh Vân, HCMC University of Social Sciences and Humanities, who spoke about literary theory and women writers, bringing more awareness to feminist literary voices. I look forward to continuing the collaboration with all I've met in Vietnam to ensure greater representation and healing for Asian women and girls.

SEL (Social-Emotional Learning) and Mindful Self-care

I presented about SEL (social-emotional learning) and mindful self-care to the Psychology Department at Ho Chi Minh City University of Education. The students' thoughtful questions demonstrated their curiosity and commitment to learning. The mutual respect and appreciation I experience when engaging with Vietnamese students makes my time here incredibly rewarding. Their passion and openness to diverse perspectives continue to inspire me.

In addition, November 20th is Vietnamese Teachers' Day (Ngày Nhà Giáo Việt Nam), a heartfelt celebration honoring teachers and educators for their contributions to education and society. Traditional songs, dances, and storytelling performed in educational settings emphasized respect, engagement, and historical appreciation. Gathering annually with instructors, faculty members, current students, and alumni fosters a profound sense of tradition, a recognition of history, and a continuation of the vital role of teaching within the department. It was truly an honor to be part of this meaningful ceremony in the Psychology department at Ho Chi Minh City University of Education (HCMCUE).
